During the weekend of September 24-26 2009, thousands gathered at the Paducah Kentucky riverfront to taste a sample of the 60 tons or so of BBQ cooked by over 50 competing teams. Local businesses set up booths and helped raise money for charitable organizations in Western Kentucky. In addition to the meat and other great foods like Cajun Corn, Fried Ice Cream, Shrimp Kabobs, and Strawberry Shortcake, other vendors sold anything from candles to jewelry to Tupperware. The Lighthouse sold Deep Fried Twinkies and Oreo Cookies and they went fast. Long lines stood waiting for the next batch to be deep-fried and drenched with powdered sugar.
